Description
The treatment of anatomical-pathological changes in the epidural space, which are the source of back pain, including disruption of lighter ligamentous adhesions or the application of a drug, is under the continuous supervision of the x-ray apparatus with a C-arm. A certain type of soft navigable catheter is introduced to the afflicted point through the patient's hiatus sacralis (a natural anatomical opening in the sacrum) or between the segments directly into the epidural space. This is then used to treat the site of pain, for example, an inflamed spinal nerve.
Benefits
The operation is performed on the abdomen and under local anaesthesia; it is painless and extremely easy on the patient. It is carried out under continuous x-ray guidance. The advantage is targeted treatment of the site of pain. The technique is also used for diagnosis of the spinal canal.
